Interactive Game Development for Rehabilitation Interventions Using Multi-touch Interactive Tabletops and Motion Tracking

We are seeking a highly motivated graduate RA/intern or other graduate-level researcher to participate in a new collaborative project between the SDR Lab and the Motion Analysis Laboratory at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital of Harvard Medical School’s Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation.

This project will utilize multi-touch tabletop and motion-tracking technologies to develop adaptive therapeutic interventions based on interactive gaming, including uni-manual, bi-manual, tangible as well as multi-person games. This application domain requires adaptability and accessibility as built-in features of the games. The inital development platform will be Microsoft Surface. These games will be developed to improve motor functions for impaired upper extremity (arms and hands) rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy.

The primary activities will include development of interactive multi-touch and tangible games which incorporate wearable sensor data, close collaboration and iterative design with rehabilitation therapists, planning of study protocols, and coordination of patient data collection. The person may also participate in dissemination of results via publications and conference presentations, and preparation of grant applications.
This is a one-year full-time or part-time opportunity starting immediately.

 Qualifications:

- MS in computer science with HCI or graphics concentration; signal processing is a plus.
- Excellent programming skills required (preferably C#, WPF)
- Experience in iterative design, focus group studies and user evaluation
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and collaboration skills (required to work with hospital staff and patients)
