Jens Kauffmann received his Ph.D. in astronomy from the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie in Bonn, Germany, in 2006, before joining the IIC as a post-doctoral researcher associated with the Astronomical Medicine project. He is involved in the development and deployment of three-dimensional data-exploration tools created by the project. His particular focus is using the software created by the project to answer specific questions in astronomical star formation research. This fits well into his general research interests, which is how gas clouds in space evolve toward forming stars.
